Will You Love Again?

When we have been hurt in love we might think that we won't ever love again.  We naturally don't want to get hurt again because the last time we loved we were hurt by it and it may have ended poorly.  Love relationships often end and statistics will support this.  People get together, live together and even get married and we don't think about it ending, but the fact is that it does end in at least fifty percent of the cases.  I have often asked myself whether I will love again or even be in another committed relationship.  Thus far I am not in a relationship and have not been for two years, but what I know is that I must be happy no matter what, whether in a relationship or not. Every day that one spends single and outside a relationship is an opportunity to discover and create what makes us happy.  Being alone gives us the chance to love the most important person in our lives, ourselves.  When we are single we get to know ourselves in a deeper sen...

How To Get What You Want

Life is funny in that we do not always get what we want but that has not stopped us from trying.  We still want what we want and we do things aligned to getting it including working hard in jobs that we hate, simply because it affords us an expensive home and car.  This blog is not so much about getting what we want as it is being certain about what it is we want and what our priorities are.  Getting something at any cost is likely going to cause us pain and even illness.  In the long run we must first decide what we want and in addition why we want it.  The price of getting what we want should not exceed the pleasure we derive from obtaining it. Once we know what we want and that it is in our best interest we can begin to plan it.  I call it an action plan or action planning.  Having a plan of action is useful in that it outlines for us what we need to do to obtain what we need or want.  Within that plan of action is the inclusion of various as...

Facebook Frenzy

For those of you who spend long hours, day after day, on FaceBook this blog may not be the one for you.  I must admit that FaceBook has become a concern for me because it has become for many their main source of communication.  I believe that due to FB we have become out of touch with our feelings, using it as a source of intimacy and a place where we share our deepest feelings or beliefs.  Although it is called a social media it has become a place where people judge others, people post negative remarks and even get into a public battle.  We have used FB to insult others and put them down as well as to share our loving feelings when in fact much of what we post should be sacred and kept private. I noticed a while back that a good number of people I know including family members communicated more on FB than they did in person.  In fact I would call some of these so called friends, leave a message and never hear from them, yet I would see constant and extreme n...

Compassion is Everything

For many spiritual leaders and groups compassion is a feeling often referred to and an act of love towards other human beings.  Compassion is in fact at the very core of other acts of love like acceptance and kindness.  If we are compassionate then we are kind.  If we are compassionate then we treat others fairly and with respect.  Compassion is an all encompassing feeling and action that helps us to connect with others in a way that is open and without judgement.   There are many people who claim to be doing good things.  They think they are being compassionate when they feel sorry for others or look down on them making statements like "poor thing" or "she is a train wreck".  In fact these are people who lack compassion and are more judgemental than caring or kind.  They disguise their prejudice and their evaluations of others with the notion that everyone else is lacking.  Compassionate people are ones who don't judge others and honor ot...

Are You Good Enough?

The thing about life is that we are learning and growing from the day we were born throughout our lives.  We strive every day to be more of who we are and to exceed the goals we had before.  We believe that we must have gotten to a particular goal at a particular age and that if we are not married by the age of thirty we may not have children on time because our "biological clock" is ticking.  It seems as though for some of us we are never good enough, yet what we must know is that we are good enough as we are.  This means that we accept that we are where we are at any given time and that where we are is in fact good enough. We are good enough the way we are because the way we are is where we need to be.  If we embrace where we are and what we have accomplished, letting go of the judgements about where we should be, we live fully and enjoy what we have by living in the now.  The truth is that we are good enough exactly where we are in the place we are wit...

Living With Intention and Purpose

When we live our life simply flying by the seat of our pants it can be fun.  There are times when one cannot think too much about what one is doing and simply enjoy the moment.  This kind of spontaneous living is great to a certain extent but eventually we must have a sense of commitment, purpose and intention.  We especially need to live with purpose when we expect to achieve goals and do the things to prosper and transform.  Life lived with intention and purpose is one that is lived fully and completely. Intention is the way we do things.  When we do things with intention we have a good reason to do it.  We intend it to have an outcome and we do things by giving it thought.  If our intention is to hurt someone then we do so.  We may plan it by saying things to someone that is mean or hurtful.  In the same way we can intend to and plan to be kind to someone and to do the very things that will result in someone feeling loved rather than put...

Why We Should Serve

I am uncertain as to how anyone could go through life without ever serving or using their talents or money to help others.  It is surprising to me that in a world with so many adults and children we could live each day ignoring these needs.  The notion of serving others is one that has a basis in the fact that we are all human and we are in some way related to one another.  To stand back and see a need or suffering is to dismiss the fact that we are all in this world together.  Although we may like to believe that what happens to other people does not effect us, the reality is that it does.  Crime, hunger, abuse of women and children who are hungry effect all of us.  We are for example paying high taxes due to the soaring number of prisoners in our jails and the crime in our country.  We may think that the prisoners in the jail belong there the truth is that many do not.  Many belong in a rehab facility or in situations where they are getting the ...
