Why We Should Serve
I am uncertain as to how anyone could go through life without ever serving or using their talents or money to help others. It is surprising to me that in a world with so many adults and children we could live each day ignoring these needs. The notion of serving others is one that has a basis in the fact that we are all human and we are in some way related to one another. To stand back and see a need or suffering is to dismiss the fact that we are all in this world together. Although we may like to believe that what happens to other people does not effect us, the reality is that it does. Crime, hunger, abuse of women and children who are hungry effect all of us. We are for example paying high taxes due to the soaring number of prisoners in our jails and the crime in our country. We may think that the prisoners in the jail belong there the truth is that many do not. Many belong in a rehab facility or in situations where they are getting the mental health services they need. We may think that the children who are starving or undernourished are not our issue yet hunger on our planet has been the cause of death for innocent babies. Why should we serve?:
The issues on this earth are rarely isolated and effect us all:
Many issues on this earth are not isolated to one area or person. We are effected in some way, either directly or indirectly, by the things that happen to others. We may choose to behave as if we are only effected by what happens to us or people we love but the truth is that we are surrounded by many other people and a world where things like crime and hunger effect us all in some manner. The way that we are effected can be financial or emotional but in the end we are in some feeling things that we are ignoring when in fact we should not. When we see the needs around us we can continue to pretend it is not happening and live in our heads or we can serve others by serving others on an ongoing basis.
We are all human beings deserving of love, compassion and nourishment:
If we are honest about life we know that we all deserve compassion. If we are compassionate we share love with others and we know it is our responsibility to give when we can and bring healing to situations that demand it. We are all the same and all of us will have times in our life when we need some kind or support from someone else. We are all human and we are here to be of service to others who are either asking or we see have a need.
It is the right thing to do:
Determining what the right thing to do is an individual choice. When we serve others it can often times feel like the right thing to do and I believe this to be the truth. It is the right thing to do. When we are in a place of doing the right thing we are in a place of understanding and not of judgement. We do what is right because we should and from our hearts. We let go of the judgements and we simply serve. We do this because it is the right thing to do.
When we serve others we are creating more of a loving energy around us:
If we want to create a loving and positive energy around us we must consider being or service to others. When we serve we create a loving and good energy around ourselves. This comes automatically when we reach our hand out to be of help to someone in need whether it is to help them to get up from a fall or buy them a bag of groceries. When we serve others it heals us and it makes us feel good about ourselves. Just as when we don't reach out when we see an obvious need we tend to feel badly if only for a moment. It is telling of why we should always consider being of service.
We were born to serve-it is in our nature:
When we are born we are fortunate given the fact that some babies die at birth. The fact that we were given life is reason enough to share that gratitude for life with others. Understanding that birth is a miracle is also telling of why we are here. We are alive and healthy so that we might share that joy of life with others. It is a universal belief that we are born for a purpose and what I think is that we are born to serve one another.
