Never Give Up
There is a quote that is used by SGI, a Buddhist group who practice chanting as a way to transform and manifest. "Never Give Up" I actually own a red t-shirt that has this saying on the chest. As simple as this may sound it is good to think about what it is that we face and how we face it. For some of us there have been things we have faced in life that are very difficult and that test our faith and patience. None the less it is the idea of never giving up that may just be the one thing that gets us through hard times. Giving up may be appropriate in certain situations yet when it comes to meeting our challenges giving up should not be the first option.
When I received the news that I had cancer I woke up the next day hoping that what I was told was a dream, that I was fine and that the doctor was a figment of my imagination. It turned out that I was in fact terminally ill and that the option was not one I'd wanted to face. I admit that one of the options that occurred to me was to give up. I often thought about dying and even wished that I would die. One time as I was in the hospital I once again asked my God to take me. I wanted to die in my sleep. As I dosed off into sleep I suddenly woke up to someone asking me a question: "Are you sure you want to go?" to which I knew I needed to respond with a yes or no. It was as though I was being given one more chance to decide and that my yes would end in death and my no would allow me to live. As a spiritual being I believed in that moment that Spirit was asking me to decide. At one point the voice stated: "if you stay it is not going to be easy". I decided to say no and that I wanted to stay in the living. It was at that moment when I decided not to give up and to let go of the notion that dying would be the best option for me. I decided in that moment that living was what I really wanted and that being away from my children would be sad and not what I wanted.
Never Give Up! If you are going through hard times know that this is temporary. You can get through it and you can heal from what is ailing you either emotionally, physically or both. Be in the place of living and understanding that life is worth living regardless of how it feels as you are going through the dark times. Giving up is an option for everyone when things are so difficult we don't see light, yet if we get through that period we may very well come out of the other side of things. Consciously telling yourself you are not going to surrender to an illness or situation is the first step to getting up and standing in your worth. When you feel like you are going to end it all, remember that you are worth giving yourself another chance.
