Make The World A Better Place

"I you wanna make the world a better place, take a look in the mirror and make that change".
                                                                   Michael Jackson

Today I noted a post of Michael Jackson singing live at one of the Grammy's.  He sang his song "Make that Change" and was backed up by gospel singers who made an even more profound impact, making the song more like an anthem.  In essence this song is truly an athem and should be part of our own personal mission,  What I sense is that the world would truly "be a better place" if we would start by changing ourselves and our own perspective, perceptions and prejudices.

We can only change ourselves although we will likely try to change others on occassion, beleiving that our perception and ideas are good ones for others and being well meaning.  The fact is that we cannot change anyone but our self.  Try as we might we cannot change people who think a certain way or believe in things that we may perceive as silly or unimportant.  In the song it clearly reminds us that change starts at home and particularly in our own temple, our own body and mind.

But how do we make that change?  How do we begin to change the world by changing ourselves?  For one we must be more focused on finding our own inner peace, joy and compassion, especially our empathy for others around us, knowing fully that we are all interconnected.  There is a thread that ties us to one another and when we change the people around us are motivated to do the same.  We are the agents of change and we are the ones who can become a higher self by doing what is right.

I cried when I listened to this song and I am clearly moved by the lyrics and the passion that Michael Jackson accessed when he sang it along with the back up gospel choir.  The reason that I cried is because I realized how much I need to make that change and that recently I have been stuck in the madness, the anger and resentments.  I am angry that my friend has cancer and I am angry that I am still addressing a health issue with some amount of fear, not embracing what I need to do but rather feeling sorry for Elliott.  With this being said I know that I must "make that change" and become the warrior that I am.  I even took pictures of myself on the deck facing the lake in the back of my home and understood the symbolism of doing this.  It was me "looking in the mirror" and seeing the person looking back at me as someone who is valuable and has done great things in life.  I must be my own hero and make the changes I need to make that are aligned with the message for today brought forth by such a person as Michael Jsckson.

There are many leaders that would agree with the idea that change starts with our self.  Ghandi was one of those people as was the great leader Martin Luther King.  We are the ones who are in control of what we do and say.  We are the ones who must take on a mission, our own missions, not the ones we believe others should undertake.  We are our own motivators and it is our responsibility to make the world a place of peace, harmony, consecutiveness and love.
