Running With Scissors
I learned a long time ago that it is dangerous to run with scissors in my hand and so when I am using scissors I make sure not to run knowing that if I fall I could end up injured. For most of us this makes complete sense but like me we have all run with scissors, at least figuratively. We put ourselves in situations where we are in emotional and physical danger when we do things that are not aligned with the best decisions, running with people who are toxic or doing things like speeding or texting in our cars. We put ourselves in a compromising situation much like running with a knife in our hand. We should know better but for most of us we still do things that are not smart or good decisions. Things that put us in danger.
We do things that are dangerous because we tend to be in a state of self-hate and when we are not in a loving place we run with scissors, run with knives, speed in our cars and stick our middle finger up at others. It seems that we are sometimes in a state of anger and irrational thoughts and because of it we do things that are not safe. We get involved with people who are wrong for us and who are toxic, bringing us to a place where our well being is compromised. As humans we battle with the excitement that danger provides us with even when we know it may not be a good idea. We still run with the scissors in our hand.
We can stop running with scissors but only if we understand what in our life needs to be addressed. We run with scissors because we have some healing to do. When we apply healing to the things in our life that are not resolved. It is our unhealed issues that cause us to do the things that are dangerous like smoking and other things that are telling of how we really feel about ourselves. Once we decide to do the things we need to do like to get counseling or join twelve step group, then and only then will we stop running with scissors.
