Knowing Your Worth
In a world where we will experience disapproval and even cruelty at the hands of others who call themselves human we must first know our worth. As many of you have read at the end of my emails there is a quote by Quincy Jones: "not one drop of my self worth depends on what you think of me". This for me is telling of why we struggle with our own worth because people will attempt to put us down for reasons of their own.
Here are some practical ways to see and know your self worth:
1. Affirm who you are often by creating, posting and reading your own personal affirmation.
Affirming who you are is as simple as stating it. Begin with the words "I am" and then add to it who you are. "I am a beautiful human being worthy of love and respect". After you write your own personal affirmation post it in your home where you can see it daily and read it at least two times a day.
2. Create boundaries around how others treat you every single time.
Setting boundaries that demonstrate to others what you expect of them and what you would not accept is a sure way to protecting your worth and letting others know that you have limits. In this way none of us should tolerate any language or actions that say that we are not worthwhile.
3. Know your worth and do things that make you worthy.
Actions are much louder than words and for this very reason you must know your worth by doing things that make you worthy like living a life of honesty and of respect towards everyone and every living thing around you. Nurturing others and being of service is one of the primary ways we can lift our own spirit. Doing things that makes us worthy is simply doing things that are worthwhile.
4. Lift others up every chance you get. This in turn will lift you up.
One of the most logical ways to lift your own spirit is by lifting that of others. Complimenting others, smiling at others and saying loving things to others creates an energy in your own life that will be meaningful and worthy. When we say something beautiful to someone else we are affirming our own worth because we understand we are all the same and that we all need to be affirmed.
5. Be the best person you can be and know that this is enough.
The best you know to be should be sufficient. If you know in your heart that you are doing your best then there is not any reason to unworthy or less than others. You will know your self worth is of the highest level when you are doing what you need to do and not simply gliding along. When you do your best you will feel your best.
Remember my brothers and sisters that your self worth does not depend on others but in fact is your own creation. You will feel at your highest level of worth when you believe that you are worthy. You will be your worth by acting in worthy ways.
