Meditation

There is a lot of talk about meditation and one can google them or look up methods of meditating on YouTube.  I would like to share my thoughts about meditation and the importance of simply taking the time to calm our mind and body.  Holding a time of sacred reverence for yourself is a very practical way to look at meditation. It is a daily gift you give to yourself.  I ask my clients to participate in a guided or silent meditation before we begin to  co-create and ask them to view meditation as simply a way for us to get centered before we begin.

Meditation can be seen as a self-loving and nurturing act that reminds us that we are valuable and taking the time for ourselves is a way to honor our mind, body and spirit. It is a daily opportunity to raise our energy level, replenish our hearts and take time to honor and send light to the universe, ourselves and to others.  It is a necessary and loving act that we can do each day before the start of the day and one that will give us the serenity we need to navigate through the challenges we may experience throughout our day.

If you want to add music to your meditation practice, there is a variety of music available.  I have found some at Target and in particular I enjoy "Liquid Mind".  Combining music with your meditation practice makes it richer although some people would advocate for complete silence I tend to like the music in the background and it helps move me into the light energy.

The first step in preparation for silent reverence (meditation) is to find a quiet space.  This can be a sacred space that you create where you have a large firm pillow to sit on and a beautiful blanket to drape over your shoulders, a scented candle, a component to play music/Pandora radio on your computer and any other objects that are hold meaning for you. If possible sit on the pillow in the lotus position and with a purposeful posture.  You may want to sit up against a wall /and object if you need some support for your back.  Place your hands on your upper legs with the palms facing up as a symbol that you are ready to receive and are open to receiving what you need.  Take a deep breath in for a count of six, hold it for a count of four and then exhale for a count of six.  Do this at least ten times making sure that you inhale deeply and exhale all the way and then return to purposeful breathing. You will have put on the music and lit your candle before starting if you are inclined. Now scan each part of your body starting from the top of your head to your toes, relaxing each part with intention as you focus on it.

Begin the process of silencing your mind and sit for at least ten minutes giving yourself the chance to just quiet yourself and still your mind.  If you find yourself distracted by busy thoughts, focus your attention on your heart by placing your hands over it.  It may be necessary to repeat a phrase that may help you stay in the moment such as: "I am whole, centered and peaceful in my spirit and body" or "I am present in spirit, mind and soul".  Maintain your state of meditation for at least ten minutes.  When you are completed, thank your inner guide, spirit source, goddess or yourself.

My encouragement for all of you is to meditate for 24 days in a row and witness what this reverent self-loving time does to lift your spirits and clear your mind.  You may even like to write about how your practice of  meditation affected you in a  positive way.  I will end this by saying that I wish for a collective energy of meditation that is focused on healing inside of each person.  I believe that this would manifest a world where peace, balance and love would prevail and one where we are gracefully connected.
