Love Trumps Hate
My saying since Donald became our president is "We can Stump Trump". I am not sure of all the ways that we will do that but I have some ideas to ponder:
Rally, Protest:
Take the time to attend rallies and protests that are relevant. Keep in mind that when you participate there could be some dangers involved. I say that if you see things getting out of hand just leave the situation completely. Rallies and protests are risky but without them our country would not be where it is relative to civil rights especially. Trump needs to see that people are constantly watching and documenting the things he is doing that are out of line with democracy. He may think himself very powerful in the business world but now he must answer to all of us.
Don't react:
When we react we say unkind things and as you can see much of it is on the social media. Trump has been humiliated to the degree where I myself am not in agreement with it. WE don't need to make him a joke, he is doing that all on his own. We need to simply address the issues and stay away from this high school like behaviors that only serve to make us look like bullies. By not reacting we are saying that we don't participate in the behaviors Trump has demonstrated to us as Americans.
Send him light:
I know this is a hard one but he needs love and light just like any other of god's children. We are not the judge and we should not be judging him as a human being. He may do and say some things we don't like but we don't need to demonize him but rather hold him in prayer. Love always Trumps hate.
Spread your Love:
Spread love everywhere to everyone you can. Find ways to love and to be in a place of loving. Remind yourself that only love can make the world change and that you are responsible for spreading it around. When someone says something you may think is inspired by Trump or his energy respond with a loving comment. When someone says something unkind respond with as much loving as you can. At the very least walk away from hateful acts by people who are in pain. Know that their pain is what is motivating them and refuse to be a part of it.
Talk with teachers, community leaders and your children:
Keeping a open dialog with teachers, community leaders and your children will help to address any fears and keep you abreast of how children are interpreting Trump supporters attitudes. Know that it has already been reported that children are reacting to his poor leadership skills and that his followers children are now more overt about some racial and negative behaviors. Your children need to be prepared by having the conversation and giving them some words they can use that are kind and honors them. It was reported to me that the students at my grandchild's school were crying when they found out Trump had been elected. It sent shock to students who are primarily Mexican. We must talk openly with teachers and ask them how they are addressing it in the schools and what they administration has put into place that will help students with their fears. I can say that as a former teacher there is a lot of avoidance of hot topics of all kinds whether they are about gay issues, discrimination or sex. Our system of education only likes to deal with the fluffy stuff or at least that was my experience.
