Racism is Alive and Well because...

Whoopie Goldberg stars in this movie opposite Sissy Spacek.  It is about a liberal white woman who has a police officer aplogize to her maid when he saw her in the park with her white children and called her a "nigger" and asked her to get out of the park immediately.  The person played by Sissy Spacek is later blasted by her husband for making the officer apologize to a "nigger".  Sissy defends her position and sticks to the fact that it was wrong and that this was a person who took care of her children. Still today there is this lack of respect for people of color that prompts me to say "the gays came out of the closet and the racist got in".  I sincerely believe that racism is still alive and thriving in the souls of many people who still believe people of color are less than them and have a horrible disrespect and opinion of us.  Yet we deny it.  Not only whites but also people of color deny that racism is still an isssue.  It may not be as overt...

Your Skirt Is Over Your Head

I am uncertain as to how many of my readers know what I mean about putting your skirt over your head.  All I know is that my sister once said it and I think I heard it in a movie once.  I do know that in the movie "Mermaids" Cher who played the mom had some great lines about being a woman and just having a good time with life.  In one of those what should be famous lines Cher's daughter played by Winnona Ryder says: "Don't you think yoiiu are too old for that dress?"to which Cher responds with: "Don't be silly Charlotte, a woman is never too old".  In another part there is a stunning young man waiting on their porch to welcome them to the country area where they moved and upon setting eyes on him Winnona Ryder who is Charlotte is mezmerized by him.  Cher suddenly turns around and says: "too bad your hell bent on becoming a nun".  To say that Cher truly pulls the dress over her head is really minimizing her role in this movie that I wo...

See The Light In Everyone

I will be the first to admit that seeing the light in some people is difficult.  It is especially hard when people behave in unkind ways.  Yet seeing the light in every person is a spiritual way to live a life that is peaceful and happy.  When we are suspicious of others and believe that they will show their worse to us it only manifests more of that part of others that is dark and that we will own.  It only serves to make us unhappy and distrustful. I have decided to see the light in everyone whether or not they are a friend or a close relative.  I have had to remind myself that love costs nothing and that giving it without reservations is a wonderful thing.  I have experienced that when I am in a loving place towards everyone around me that I am much more happy.  After a are all pretty much the same and equally deserving of love.  Besides if I want to be loved then I should be the first to be the person who loves.
