Whoopie Goldberg stars in this movie opposite Sissy Spacek.  It is about a liberal white woman who has a police officer aplogize to her maid when he saw her in the park with her white children and called her a "nigger" and asked her to get out of the park immediately.  The person played by Sissy Spacek is later blasted by her husband for making the officer apologize to a "nigger".  Sissy defends her position and sticks to the fact that it was wrong and that this was a person who took care of her children. Your Skirt Is Over Your Head

I am uncertain as to how many of my readers know what I mean about putting your skirt over your head.  All I know is that my sister once said it and I think I heard it in a movie once.  I do know that in the movie "Mermaids" Cher who played the mom had some great lines about being a woman and just having a good time with life.  In one of those what should be famous lines Cher's daughter played by Winnona Ryder says: "Don't you think yoiiu are too old for that dress?"to which Cher responds with: "Don't be silly Charlotte, a woman is never too old".  In another part there is a stunning young man waiting on their porch to welcome them to the country area where they moved and upon setting eyes on him Winnona Ryder who is Charlotte is mezmerized by him.  Cher suddenly turns around and says: "too bad your hell bent on becoming a nun".  To say that Cher truly pulls the dress over her head is really minimizing her role in this movie that I wo...

Victim or Survivor

Victim or Survivor: There will eventually be a time where we must each decide if we are a victim or we are a survivor.  I think it best to be a survivor, even if we have once been a victim and that going around retelling our story of victimization is likely not in our best interest.  There are legitimate victims, both adults and children who have been abused and hurt both emotionally and physically.  This is not about questioning if one has been a victim or not but rather a conversation around victim versus survivor and whether we want to maintain a life in a place of victim.  Let's begin by addressing the idea of being a victim.  What is that like?
