Home is Family

I know we have heard it over and again that family is everything but I don't think we can think too much about the importance of family.  Today my best friends and their children came by along with my daughters and two granddauthers.  I recall getting up so much more happy and as the morning wore on I became even more excited.  I could not wait for everyone to arrive.  Both my friends are like sisters to me one who I taught at the same school with and one who I partied and danced salsa with for a few years.  My oldest daughter has a thirteen year old and a five year old, both girls.  One of my good friends with a daughter and son came by with her boyfriend and made me some home made soup that took four hours to make.  It was filled with meat, potatoes, veggies of all kinds and rice to be added or not.  My other friend made a pasta with sausage and chicken and cheese.  It was delicious and that was our lunch.  Her two sons were delightful and her three year old had the enough energy to last us all a year or so.

The house was filled with joy, laughter, children and friendship.  One moment the adults were playing volley ball and the next minute the three year old was watering the tree in the front of the house.  Then the teens decided to play hide and seek which surprised me but they had a blast doing so.  Who knew?

My daughter made a drink from tropical carrot juice and with LaCroix orange sparkling water with a liquor.  Although I don't drink I took a little taste of it and it was delicious.  Between her and her sister, my two kids, they laughed enough for a lifetime.  I love to see them together joking and poking fun at each other.  I love to see how much love they have for one another.  To witness them is to witness and joyous sparkle all around the room.  They both have such a good sense of humor.

At one point all the children got together out in the yard and rolled and jumped and threw themselves all over the place.  The freedom with which they played was so great to witness and so full of abandon.  Every time I looked at them they filled me with happiness and excitement.

My girlfriend's boyfriend was awing about my home and how beautiful it was and what I realized this day and others where I have had guests over to my home is that a home is nothing without sharing it with others.  Really no home would mean anything to me without the chance so share it with friends and family.  That is what makes a home so valuable to me even though I enjoy being in it alone as well.  But in the end it is family and friends that make a house a home.

There have been others in my life who don't value a home.  They trash it and they don't take pride in it.  It is nothing but a material thing to own or brag about.  It is just a place to sleep.  For me a home is a hearth and it is a place to honor and to bring spirit to.  It is a place to respect and appreciate and a place where what happens inside of it should be filled with social events and happiness.  A home is just a house if there is no family sharing inside of it.and there are no dinner parties or birthday parties.  If there is not a kid running up the stairs and rolling in the grass.

I pray for my home.  I know that as long as I share it then all will follow.  I know that if I respect my home I can enjoy it and relax in it.  I can have privacy and dance in the living room with my friend like I did today.  It may be heard many times but "home is where the heart is".
