What Is A Miracle Anyway?
Five years ago a bridge collapsed in Minnesto on I-35 as about a hundred cars were crossing it. Cars flew in every direction and some fell into the Mississippi River below. 15 people died and 145 people sustained minor to serious injuries. Even a bus full of children that was crossing the bridge fell into the hole that was created by falling cement and metal. One woman who fell into the water had accepted her fate, asking God to say goodbye to her family as she took what she knew was her last breath. But as spirit would have it she suddenly realized she was no longer inside her car and was able to make it up and out of the river. A man who was close by assisted her as she made it out of the water and onto the parts of the wreckage close by. After helping her the same man decided to respond to the children screaming on the bus. He and others helped the children off the bus safely, every single one of them. To witness this event was truly a testimant to what human kind can do given the urgency and most of all what God is capable of doing when things like this happen.
I don't think that what happened that day on this bridge was solely a human experience. In fact I believe with all of my heart that it was a Spirititual experience where God was present in every way for each person, like the woman who suddenly found herself no longer trapped inside her car. For me the fact that she did not know how she got out of her car is enough evidence of God's hand operating in this situation and saving her. There was for her and the many who survived, most of them, a miracle that they survived such a serious situation. Nothing could explain why another man could not recall how he got out of a car that was almost totally flat from falling several feet onto concrete. His wife who was at home turned on the TV after being led to do so and saw him walking to safety. Yet for six hours he could not be found only to later end up in a hospital and not knowing how he got there. When his wife came to his side in the hospital he had not recollection of what had happened. It was as if some source allowed him to become absent of the emotional pain. Another miracle? You decide for yourself.
Like the story about the bridge that collapsed there are others where inexplicably people live and not only do they live, they end up somewhere they'd not recalled going and end up safe. I contend that some are lifted up and taken there by the Holy Spirit. I contend that like many God engineered occurances these people are transported by Source to safety and for whatever reason are spared in situations where one would logically think they would die for sure. Instead they do not die and in fact survive to share their inspirational story with all of us. Perhaps this is not just about miracles but more about trust and our human ability to have the faith we need to make it through things we would not ever have thought we'd survive. Perhaps this is evidence that we are valued by a source greater than ourselves. For many this is not something we want to beieve because we are so very sure that we have so much power and that we alone can make miracles happen. I have grown to understand that life is filled with these kinds of situations that need no explanation or justification, just that it is what God intended it to be. For if you have experienced one miracle as I have, you will never again question the power of the Holy Spirit. Not ever.
