4 Ways To Get Your Life Back
After a rather lengthy battle with cancer I have successfully gotten my life back. No one knows how that feels unless you have undergone chemo and some painful radiation. Yet what I have come to know is that I am much more empowered than I thought and that my life is a series of ups and downs as is everyone else's life.
Today I talked to one of my siblings who shared these feelings of helplessness and a desire to be honored by our mother who is currently ill and has many physical and emotional issues. After our talk I texted him what came up for me which was: "believe in yourself, not what others believe of you". It is in fact a message that I needed to share but moreover one that I needed to hear as well. Each day is a challenge but we can get our life back by knowing deep inside of our spirit that we can.
After any challenging time we are often placed in a position of trying to get back to normal, to get our life back. It is not always as simple as we may think but it's also not as hard as we think. To get our life back means that we return to a feeling of normalcy and a greater and higher self. We cannot settle for less than a feeling of wholeness. Here are some ways to achieve this:
1. Detach from the situation, person or things that have control of you and that you have allowed to take control of you: More than anything you must convince yourself that certain people (the ones treating you poorly), places and things do not have power over you. You in fact are empowered and making the decision is the first step to healing and getting your life back. Take the time to write down the things and people whom you need to detach from and then detach from all of it with as much love and compassion as you can.
2. Let go of the anger by silencing it: Anger will and does hold us hostage. Dig into your mind and heart to determine why you are angry. It is likely that this anger will poison you if you don't let go of it. Meditation and prayer may be helpful in letting go and getting back to a place of peace and feeling of serenity. Talk to your highest self and tell that inner being or hurt child inside that it is time to release the anger in ways that are loving and kind. Forgive the people who have hurt you and let go of the past, the things or situations or people who are at the core of the anger. Write down what or whom you are going to release and have a burning ceremony. Write a letter to the person you are upset with and burn it while stating: "I release this to the universe as it no longer serves me".
3. Start a new chapter with intention: Plan and do things that are new for you and that perhaps you have been waiting to do or had the desire but never got around to it. Review and revise your resume and your life plans. Take the horse of life by the reigns and live it with purpose and intention. Focus on the things that you need to do for your highest good and list the actions you will take. Do things with intention and purpose and do some things you have never done before.
4. Affirm what you want and do so with conviction: When we write an Affirmation we write it as if we were already at that place where we intend to be. When we affirm something we are telling our unconscious mind that we are already there and have accomplished it even if we are working on getting there still. An affirmation starts with the words "I am" and specifically focuses on what you want to create in your life or what you want more of. It can look like this: "I am a in charge of my life and empower with all the life tools I need to get my life in order". Statements like this one help us to get to where we want to be by affirming it without question and without doubt.
There you have it. Now it is time for you to take the four basic steps to getting your life back. Believing that you can take your life back and bring order, joy and love back into it is the very first step. Believing is knowing that for once in your life you are in charge of you and you know what you need in this life. I for one am proud of myself and others like me who have after a battle, gotten their mojo back and released that pain, anger, resentment or worry. Look at this as the fight to get your spirit back and that by doing so you are honoring the deepest part of yourself and healing it with intention and purpose. In the Buddhist group in Chicago they often times say and have shirts that say "Never Give Up". Never ever give up on yourself and know with all your soul that you are worthy.
