Your Self Worth

"Not one drop of my self-worth depends on your acceptance of me". Quincy Jones

This quote is at the bottom of every email I send out and several people have commented about how much it resonates for them.  It is of course not surprising that at the forefront of people's minds is the experience they have had worrying about what others think of them, believe they are or understand as having an impact on their self-esteem.  Many of us have allowed others opinions of us drive how we feel about ourselves and when we begin to undertand that some are not as loving as we would like them to be we then take our self-worth back to ourselves, knowing that our opinion of ourselves is the one that matters most.

If I could take back the ten years I spent with an abusive person in my life and his family of origin that I allowed to abuse me I would.  Sadly I cannot do that and the damage has been done.  Happily for me I am working on and have suceeded in fomulating a more loving opinion of Elliott today and now that will counteract any further abuse in the future.  I know that I am not what they thought of  me or any other person like me who happens to be Hispanic.  I am a beautiful man, an intelligent man, a caring person and have tithed my talents for others good.  I am honored to serve and each day is a lighter filled day because I no longer interact with people who were abusive and bigoted and who were allowed to project their hate for people of color upon me.  Not one drop of my self-esteem and what I think of myself is attached to their opinions of me, past or present.  As is often said and was recanted by one of the victims of that comedian we all know about: "Karma is a bitch".  I don't have to ssy or do anything and I know this because of my own backlash for my own behaviors.  I not only tell my own stories I admit to my own flaws.

Today look at your life and the people in it.  Determine who in your life is attempting to control you by insulting or bullying you.  If there are people in your life today that don't deserve to be it may be time to determine whether you want to continue to be in their space and life.  Dig inside yourself and what you feel about yourself.  Is how you feel about you bringing you further down and allowing others to bring you down?  If so, truly and intentionally rid yourself of the karma that others bring to you that is not healthy or positive.  Release them with love in your heart and choose yourself now.  There is nothing more accurate and urgent than taking good care of you and not having others abuse or put you down or have low opinions of you as to create disrespect and discourse inside of you and your higher self.  Take your power back and become empowered knowing that who you are should not just be seen but celebrated.
