Holiday Family Fun

So many times our family events lack a little something.  We start with a bang, we eat great food and then we sit and watch TV and some of us may even opt to take a nap.  Well your next family get together can be a little more exciting and this holiday season you can plan some fun activities.  Here are some of my ideas:

Heart Activity:
Cut large hearts with construction paper or pretty stationary sheets.  Place the names of all the family members inside a container.  Have each person pick a name.  Once everyone has selected a name give them a few minutes to write a heart felt expression to that person.  Lastly give everyone the option to read it to the other person or for the person receiving it to read it.  This is a heart exercise so it may be emotional but It can also be fun and light hearted if you instruct them to add that element.

Head Up:
My daughter hosted Thanksgiving and we played this fun game.  It was made famous by Ellen on her talk show.  It is a fun guessing game where others give one person clues and he or she has to guess a word or phrase.  This game is a blast.

Match Game:
Play the match game with your family and have a inexpensive prize that would be suited to anyone including the children like a gift card to Target or Walmart.  The match game can be lots of fun and is an easy game to play, eliminating hard competition.  I purchase the match game at Ikea for 4-5 dollars and it was a nice looking one using picture of home items.

Charades:
One of my fave games is charades where you act out the names of movies or books.  It is an active game and it is hilarious at times to see others act things out silently.  It is a classic game and a lot of fun.

Apples to Apples:
Love this game!  This one requires every player to submit a word from the cards dealt to them that they feel is a similar word to the judges word.  This game elicits banter and a truly funny conversation about why the judge picked the word that this or that person submitted.

Christmas Carols:
Take a portion of the time with family and go from house to house in your area and sing some Christmas carols to others.  You would be surprised and the loving reactions you will get.  This is a tradition that is often used in places like Puerto Rico and is just a nice way to spend an hour or so if the weather permits.  Have some song sheets ready for this great activity.

Share A Talent:
Ask your family members to prepare a song to sing or a talent of some kind to share with others.  We are a family with people who play guitar, sax and others that have great singing voices.  It is a great way to make the holiday even more special.

I hope these ideas will encourage you all to come up with some activities of your own for the holidays.  May this be a wonderful holiday season for you and your family.  Be blessed.
