6 Self-Loving Acts
It is not easy being single and sometimes enjoying it is even more difficult, especially because we are constantly being bombarded with images of relationships and being in love. The fact remains that there are many people who are not coupled and in fact may not ever be in a relationship. The question and challenge then becomes how to enjoy our life and do so alone. What are the things we could be doing alone that bring us the most joy and optimize our life? There are many:
1. Take yourself out on a date: Take the time to take yourself out on a date to a movie, dinner, roller skating or dancing. Go on a sweet date with yourself planning every single moment as if you were going out on a special date with a very special person: You.
2. Buy yourself a gift (flowers are great): Buy yourself a gift every time you get paid. Take the time to select something that is meaningful like a book or a journal. It can also be a gift of a beautiful piece of clothing or a pair o shoes. Whatever gift you get for yourself make it one you would wish someone would get for you. You are special and worth buying a cool gift for. The other day I walked into a vintage shop and bought a cool necklace with a skull and key on a metal thick chain. It felt special to me and made me feel like I was worth it. I love white flowers and orchids and that is many times my first choice of a self-loving gift. As the orchids open or the roses bloom I look at them and it reminds me of my own blooming and my own transformation.
3. Make your bedroom your sanctuary: make the place where you sleep special for you with beautiful linens and wonderful comfortable pillows. Light a candle at night next to your bed and make this room a sacred space with beautiful things around you. Make sure it is lit up beautifully at night with soft lighting that invites you to relax. Your bedroom should be your sanctuary, a place where you find peace and serenity every night.
4. Exercise: Do some form of exercise every day whether it is lifting weights or taking a long walk. Take the time to give your body the message that it's important and that you will take good care of it. It is self-loving to work out each day and expressing it by getting some exercise each day will keep your mind and body healthy and happy.
5. Cook for you: Make yourself at least two good meals a day. Take the time to nourish your body by preparing healthy food and consuming healthy foods.
6. Groom yourself each day: However big or small groom yourself every day. Wash up, take a shower, put on some cute clothes. Don't sit around all day in your pajamas. Brush your teeth, wash your face and even put on some face cream. A little fragrance will not hurt. Grooming ourselves each day is a sign to our person that we mean something and that we are important whether we are going out or staying home does not matter. Depression tends to make people sit around and not take care of their body but we can fight it by forcing ourselves to take a shower and comb our hair back. A simple amount of grooming sends the message that we are important and valuable.
