Cure Your Lonliness
Lonliness is an illusion as long as you believe there is nothing else out there or even in your home that will cure it, take care of it and squeeze it out of your internal thoughts. There are some obvious reasons why one would like to not be lonely and in fact feel a part of something and others around us. Here are some easy cures for the loneliness blahs:
1. Open the door and go outdoors even if just to the front or back porch.
2. Grab your bike, put it in your trunk or bike rack and head for the bike path along the lake.
3. Fill up the tub with bubbles, light candles and take a long bath or soak.
4. Put on a funny movie on cable TV or Netflix.
5. Call a friend and ask them to list the reasons they love you so much.
6. Play with one of your children, especially if they are five or under.
7. Buy a new pair or undies, t-shirt or socks.
8. Go out dancing. Get dressed up.
9. Buy some flowers for yourself.
10. Write yourself a love letter or write on for someone you love.
11. List the reasons you are grateful for the life you have.
12. Stop everything and sit or lay still for a few minutes. Maybe add some gentle music.
Some of you may be thinking: Loneliness is real, it's not just in my imagination. That may be true for you but I would like to challenge you to view loneliness as a state of mind that you can change and that will change eventually. We are not always going to have feelings of loneliness and this feeling is not per se natural. This is why I say that loneliness is an "Illusion". When we view loneliness as a passing feeling we can understand better how life works because it is going to pass as most things do. In a moment of feeling alone we can get very tangled up in this illusion but we don't have to. We can ask loneliness and sadness to just go for a walk. We don't have to wallow in it. We can be lonely with others around us and to be honest that is the worse type of loneliness. When we are in the state of sadness and lonely we are only there for a temporary amount of time. We must remember that there are many others who feel lonely and if we simply reach out to others our loneliness will dissipate and so will theirs.
