Men Play Dumb on Life Skills
If there is one thing I have heard repeatedly it is that men don't have life skills or they just play dumb. There are so many life skills we need to live life day to day like: washing clothes, paying bills, saving for an emergency, cleaning a home, maintaining a home, maintaining a car, washing dishes, loading a dishwasher and tending to the outside of a home. In my sixty years on this earth I have heard many women complain about their husbands lack of life skills. Whether they are playing dumb or they really did not learn the basic life skills does not matter. What matters is that one day a man will be with a partner and if he does not have life skills or pretends not to it can be a deal breaker. The up side is that there are some ways to correct this issue:
1. Teach boys to be self-sufficient and don't do everything for them. Teach boys how to do housework and iron their own clothing. There are many life skills to learn and those skills are not just for girls.
2. Let your male children know when they are not doing their part or doing things in a way that is not acceptable. Correct poor behavior by teaching boys how to do it right. Let boys know that cooking and cleaning is not a female's job bur rather a job for any person in any home.
3. Be a responsible parent and model behavior that is about keeping a home that he or she can be proud of and where anyone can enter. Teach them early on the importance of home and keeping it a sacred place.
4. Do not accept the old game of "I don't know how to do that". Many times men play dumb by acting as though they don't know how or doing it poorly so you won't ask them to do the house related work again. We often times excuse our men from doing what they should be doing, their part.
5. Men must know that life smart is more valuable than book smart. Life skills should be something men and women know how to handle.
