Never Give Up
I am not the expert on getting through things in my life however I must say that I have been through a heck of a lot. My sister committed suicide when she was about 22, my dad left us when I was about six years old, my mom became ill and abusive early in my life, I ran away from home at 14 years of age, I got cancer and then abandoned by the person that professed to love me, I lost a few friends who could not cope with my illness, I was accused of mental cruelty and I am currently in the throws of and ugly divorce. I have obviously had my share of pain yet somehow I have surpassed it. Some think me to be a very strong man yet what I know is that I am a man of faith and that there were many things that helped me to "never give up" as the t-shirt I purchased in red states on it.
Never giving up means that you simply keep trying and you don't take it laying down. Not giving up means that you get up every day and you wash your face, put on your clothes and keep going. It means that you do everything to love life and love what you have in your life. It means that you don't give up and that you see yourself as worthy of all that life offers. Never giving up is really about talking your ego into going away and allowing your heart and should to take over your entire being.
I have seen many examples of people who don't give up but a couple stand out for me. One was a woman who danced on "Dancing with the Stars" that had no legs and used prosthetic legs to dance. Not only was she happy she showed the world that a disabled woman could not only dance but look just as beautiful as any other woman. She inspired me as did the man who danced on the same show that did not have one of his arms and legs. He had no knee so he could barely bend his fake leg and he refused to use a false arm. What he did was amazing and from start to finish he took third place. The world had voted for him not just because he was dancing but because he did it with courage and gusto. I am disabled and know the pain but must admit that it is nothing compared to others. I see clearly how others more challenged than I never give up.
Living our highest potential is the most loving thing we can do. Appreciating what we have is important in this process. Looking towards heroes like the ones on Dancing with the Stars help us to understand that the full potential of our life is all about not giving up. So whenever you feel like you are going to give up look around you. Someone not far from you is dealing with something bigger and have overcome it.

Never give up for me is also never giving in….never letting the pain or despair or loneliness or whatever seems to be taking over get the upper hand. Sometimes you have to let go, and be sad, lonely, even a little depressed…but you have to go on. Going forward until the "bad" is in the background and the happy is front and center!
