Dance Can Be Healing
I have been dancing since I was able to stand and walk. I have always had this connection to music and have not trouble with hearing the beat and following along. For others this is not the case and for some there is even a fear of dancing and looking foolish due to insecurity. Many people have shared that the only time they would dance is if they were drunk or at the very least had a few drinks. If I had my way the whole world would be dancing and I believe that it would be healing and we'd have less stress overall. I understand from teaching salsa dance that people do find it healing and for good reason:
Dancing pumps up happy:
We may not believe this but dancing can make us happier. I know this for myself because every time I dance I become more and more joyful. There is something about dancing that brings up the he pay energy inside of me. I have also witnessed this in others who dance. Dancing is a great way to connect with others and when we connect we naturally feel happy. There is really nothing more useful for introducing ourselves to someone by asking them to dance. Think about it. All that we need to do is test it for ourselves.
Dancing relieves stress:
When you are feeling stress put on some music and start dancing in any style or form you like. Just move about and let the music inside of you. Dance for a while and feel the stress exiting from your body and mind. Dance therapy is real and for this reason there is an entire profession using dance for healing people. The fact is that it works.
Dancing is good exercise:
For those people who hate the repetition of exercise or don't feel it every time dancing is a great alternative and is great exercise. We can engage the entire body in dance and tone up at the same time. Dancing is simply good exercise and for some more fun than a treadmill or lifting weights.
Dancing is healing:
In general dance helps us to get in touch with our bodies and our feelings. By letting go and becoming spontaneous we will feel the feelings and possibly release some of the anger or the disappointments in our life. We all have times that are difficult and I say dance it away. Keep moving until you cannot help but to feel better, whether it is to salsa or hard rock. It just does not matter as long as you are focused on your healing and on your happiness.
So there you have it for all it is worth. If you have not danced before I say give it a try but do it for a while. Take some dance lessons if you feel as though that would help you jump start your dancing experience. Find a new way to up your happy and increase your playful energy. What have you got to lose?
