Nurturing Value

Starting my day today thinking about what I can do to improve my health in each aspect of it: spiritual, physical and emotional.  I think that what we do the most is distraction like watching TV or texting on our phones.  I will challenge myself to do something today that is more challenging and that requires something more of me than to just sit and be entertained by TV shows like The Chew or Windy City Chicago, even though they are both good shows.  Challenging myself today means doing some things that nurture me like a green smoothie and a light upper body workout.  Later my daughter is coming by with a friend and I would like nothing better than to do something interactive with them like play cards and chat versus watching a movie on Netflix.  So much of my time is spent doing things that have no "nurturing value" (like no nutrition value in certain foods like the coffee and cookies I had this morning).

Things that have nurturing value are things that help us to lift ourselves in a way that is spiritual and emotionally healthy.  I find that if I am not intentional in what I do not much of nurturing value gets accomplished.  When I intend to be nurturing one of the first things I do is turn off the TV and put on some meditation music while I wash up.  Right after that I do a short reading from a daily and dated book of thoughts.  Then I hold silence for a period of at least ten minutes or more.  Once I have completed that silent meditation I prepare a smoothie and do a short light workout the best I can with my health condition.  On the days that I do these things I feel like I have done things that are of nurturing value and that serves me well.

Nurturing is an intentional thing we do for ourselves.  Nurturing is doing things that are meaningful and that are of some value to our soul, our spirit and our heart.  The mind follows so we don't have to worry about that part becuase when we do the other things our mind feels healhier and more clear.  That all adds up to more openess and more joy.  Too many of us are busy all day long, day in and day out.  We don't take the time to nurture and then we feel empty at the end of the day and at times even frustrated and filled with anxiety.  This is why purposeful nurturing is so important for all of us, especially when you have a stressful job or a stressful situation of any type in your life.

And so now I will get ready to begin my self-nuruturing acts and you get ready to do yours.  It is not too late and you can even wait until you get home today to do it, but in the future try to do these intentional self-loving acts at the start of your day no matter how short the time at first.  Get up a little earlier and do some of those wonderful things your spirit is asking of you.  Hold reverence and silence, thank Source for all the things you have, allow yourself to lay or sit for a period of time to meditate and read from a positive text.  Do the things that have nurturing value and eat what has nutritional value before you start every day.
