This Holiday

This holiday my family and I have decided that there will be no gift exchange among any of the adults or adult children.  Only the minor children of which we have only two will receive a gift.  Our goal is to make Christmas about a spiritual experience and a god centered one.  In the past we have had a grab bag for all the adults and each adult would get one gift for the assigned person.  This year we are acutely aware of how commercial Chirstmas can be and how much money is spent in the name of the holidays.  It seems so wasteful when one thinks of the people all over the world that need something basic like a plate of food and the homeless shelters that are in need of a donation of plastic forks or coffee creamer.  It seems like maybe one or two people in the family might be holding back and perhaps unhappy at the decision but I for one am sticking to my guns as they say and if I spend money it will be to donate to a nearby homeless shelter.

Our family is a lively family and we are a family that has numerious talents: artists, musicians, singers, poets and more,  hence we have decided to instead share those talents and maybe play a game of charades and dance.  We are a loving family and we always have these truly boustrous family who love to laugh and so there will be much laughter and song.  This year is going to be the best year of all because it will be just us and the music can be loud if we want it to be and we can express our beautiful culture.  We have not yet invited anyone outside our family aside from boyfriends so that we can just be all of who we are and do all the things we love to do, eating the foods we love so much made by fantastic cooks.  My brother may play quitar, we may sing, my daughter may gift us with a song, my granddaughter will likely sing as well and my niece may dance for us as she is a professional dancer.  My sister of course might recite a poem as she is a great writer.  Each of us will share our talents as a gift to everyone that will be here in the "Hampton" home as I call it.  With it's aqua and sand colored walls and a tree that will be white brances and blue and silver onamaments.  Love will prevail and the shimmer of Christmas will just be an extra visual gift.

I am looking forward to this holiday in spite of my health challenges that I would rather think of as a health opportunity.  Despite the missing partnership I would have liked had it been for me and despite any physical pain I might feel.  Nothing will stop the joy from prevailing just as it did the last time my grandkids were in the home and the laughter filled this home.  The home that I made inviting and peaceful for them and everyone who walks in the door.  The home that I nurtured and am ready to share at all times.  In fact a good friend just left here with her daughter who stayed overnight and appreciated the luxury and the serenity of this beautiful home.  Nothing matters when you are in a place where you can share your home and what you have done with the ones you love.  This holiday season that will be the goal.  To share the love that resides inside this home that is nurtured by love and thougthfulness.  To sing, dance and be present for each other without a thought about whatever or whoever is missing, looking at this holiday season as the one where we have everything we need and everyone we need to be a part of it.

As you plan your holiday season think about doing things that are meaningful and spiritual rather than to focus on gifts and material things.  We the Collazo Clan want to wish you all a holiday where you approach it outside the box by donating to a cause instead of to each other.  We the Collazo clan invite you to share your talents and feelings, your deepest deepest feelings.  Sing a song for your family, dance together and make this holiday about god and the gift of living.  Stand up proudly and share your gifts.  Don't hesitate and don't feel limited to act a certain way that is controlled or censored.  Don't be in judgement but rather be in joy.  Feel this holiday and share your feelings about Christmas and the wonderful birth of our God, our Source, our Spirit.
